World Cup Fantasy Weekly Update 6
Hello everyone and welcome to the final week of the World Cup! I am hustling to get this one done which shouldn't be too tough considering there were only 2 matches, so let's get going!
Semifinals
- France 0-2 Spain
Lots of questions came as a result of this one: is Spain that good? Is France bad? Has France not played any good teams this tournament? Is Mikel Merino washed? On that note, the only good thing coming from the France team was probably their ability to succeed where Portugal and Belgium failed. And yet, Digne still decided to kick Yamal in the hip in his own box, then follow that up with not tracking a free run from Pedro Porro. Anyway, basically the entire French team went absent for 90', considering they somehow picked up only 0.31xG on 10 shots and never really looked like they had a chance. Even when Doue was looking at an open net after Simon ended up further up the pitch than his backline.
- England 1-2 Argentina
Queue Scooby-Doo style pulling Tuchel's mask off to reveal… Gareth Southgate?!? This game was remnant of oh so many matches in which England decided to not put their attacking talent to good use and instead stacked 6 CBs into the box while also refusing to win any headers or close down players taking long shots or putting in crosses. A foolproof plan against the best passer of the ball in the world and the team that's scored the most goals from outside of the box. And not to rag on England too much (since this could go on forever), but Argentina rightfully took advantage of their negativity and the England players just looked rattled. Especially so when Tuchel put a player on and re-arranged the entire team. Who knew "10 in the box" was so complicated.
Third Place Match
And that leads to another historic match that nobody wants to play:
- England vs France
World Cup Final
While we have an actual Finalissima taking place! The Euro and Copa winners were so upset their match was canceled they decided they should go ahead with it anyway:
- Spain vs Argentina

Really not a lot to look at here, yet again, but the final week should be mighty interesting considering Chris now only holds a 3 point lead over Luke! Darryan's got a 17 point gap to close, I have a 35 point one, and Jesse has an 18 point deficit behind me to close out the top 5. Zach is just under 20 points behind again, with a huge lead over Coop, who increased his advantage over John to 33. Kevin's got a chance at 8th though considering his 41 pointer put him back by just 12 points and a solid way away from Mack. Who has her own 25 point lead over Scott.
