Welcome to the Game of Stones Season 5 - League B!

Hello everyone and welcome to Game of Stones Season 5! I'm incredibly hyped for this season as we have some big changes that I think are going to make this season more fun, competitive, and just generally interesting than we've had before!

But it won't be without some hiccups, because we're fully transitioning to https://www.gosfpl.com/ for all things FPL. Yep, that means you won't need to use that pesky Premier League app again. However, it does mean that there will be bugs. I am human and have a job (that isn't in web dev, so please bear with my UI/UX shortcomings) so I can only dedicate so much time to polishing, fixing, and adding the nice-to-have features that I want to add.

And if you run into anything that looks weird, doesn't function how you expect, or needs a little bit of attention, tell me! I am always looking for feedback good and bad and have a looooong list of things I'd like to add to the website, so what's one more on top. But also, don't tell me until after the season starts, since I have a very dedicated team of beta testers clicking lots of buttons and shooting gameweek numbers off screen until then.

Anyway, your mission is to go to https://www.gosfpl.com/, click the "Sign in" button, and sign up for an account! Once signed in, you should see something that says "Welcome - ping me to link your account" (or something to that extent). I'll be going in every couple days or so and manually linking the account you create to your "Manager" (remember, limited time for automation), which will cause that line to update to something like "Hello Matthew." Once that's happened, you're all set up website-wise. And if you run into any issues, let me know so I can make sure other people don't.

Draft Day

The other thing I need from you is to fill out the when2meet for the draft! The draft will take place August 15th or 16th depending on the league. https://www.when2meet.com/?37257585-MISvl/

And if you can't make the draft, that's okay! Send me an ordered draft list so that I can draft on your behalf. Since we're doing the draft offline, I'll send out a spreadsheet for draft day a week or so in advance which you can make a copy of to edit and share with me, or just do it in a Google doc/txt file/text message/by hand and send it over. Feel free to add if statements (e.g. if I have 2 DEFs stop drafting DEFs until round 10), or whatever else you can think of. And if you are new and have no idea what is going on or where to start, take a look at the New Player Primer! It's a little bit outdated (and contains a lot of official FPL screenshots), but is a good place to get started. And if you have any questions or want me to review your draft sheet, send it over early! I'm happy to help.

And speaking of draft day, the draft will probably be a chain of Google Meets (since the room only stays open for ~1 hour iirc) unless I can figure out a better solution. I'll send the link out to everyone morning of, please be prompt!

Draft Order

Will be released on Friday! I'll send out an email that contains the draft order for all 3 leagues.

Prize Pool

For those who are returning, the prize pool split is the same as last year and the requirements are the same: contribute what you can! In my opinion there's a lot to be said for contributing to the prize pool (e.g. there's more at stake therefore people are more competitive), but I also recognize that not everyone is comfortable with paying for a silly little fantasy league that some dude in Seattle runs. Anyway, all that to say I'll put my venmo in the email/Discord form of this communication.

And also I'll start the prize pool at $100, with the following split:

  • 1st Place
    • Jersey of your choice
    • 50% of prize pool
  • 2nd Place
    • 30% of prize pool
  • 3rd place
    • 20% of prize pool
  • Manager of the Month
    • $10
  • Mid-Season Tournaments
    • $30
    • Mystery Kit

Mid-Season Tournaments

A quick note since a few of y'all are new: I run mid-season tournaments throughout the year (sort of mimicking the Champions League, FA Cup, etc.). It'll be fairly obvious these are going on if you keep up with the weekly updates, but basically some weeks your team will play 2 matches, one in the league and one in the cup. That means your score will be used against two different opponents, which means sometimes you can lose in the league and win in the cup. Makes for a nice reward if you get really unlucky in the league yet still are able to defeat your cup opponent.

Promotion / Relegation

And since there are some new people here, League B has both promotion places and relegation spots! The top 2 finishers will be automatically promoted to League A for Season 6, while the 3rd place manager will go into a playoff against the 10th place manager in League A in Gameweek 37 and 38 (this is done "retroactively," but we'll keep track of the possible matchups in those weeks).

League B also has relegation spots to League C, which for this season will act the same way. 11th and 12th get automatically relegated, while 10th goes into a playoff against League C 3rd place.

Oh and last thing, League C still needs 3 people! Send them the New Manager Form and be rewarded on draft day with chips.
