Weekly Matchups

And taking a look at the table, we've got 8 out of 12 managers on 6 points. Wow, I don't think this has happened before. Anyway, of course after the huge 65 pointer I put up this week the stars aligned for me to take 1st on PF because why not. And I hear your rigged chants and I relish them. Moving on, Luke sits in 2nd, with MatthewR just 1 PF behind him, and Kevin 1 PF behind him, and so on and so forth.

Game changers! I promise I'll watch more matches next week so I can have more interesting things to say.

  • MatthewR: Marcus Tavernier - 10 pts - Tav scored his 2nd goal of the season and his 2nd 10 pointer as the binary man led his team to a 2-2 draw against Newcastle.
  • Kevin: Martin Ødegaard - 10 pts - Another player of the match for the Arsenal captain as he scored the winning goal against Chelsea this weekend from a Tzolis assist that definitely deserved to be a Havertz one from that dummy.
  • Chris: Luka Vuskovic - 12 pts - The newly seagull Croatian center back scored his first center back goal of the season as he netted the only goal Brighton could manage against Leeds in their 1-1 draw.
  • Darryan: Kai Havertz - 8 pts - The other goal scorer against Chelsea is Chelsea hater himself Kai Havertz, whose 2 points from bonus was almost enough to make up for the assist points he should have had from the dummy on the Ø goal.
  • Matthew: Alexander Isak - 13 pts - It's been ages since I've seen my first rounder score in two back to back weeks, let alone score a brace in one of them! Shoutout the Swede for definitely not just taking advantage of Ipswich's keeper doing… whatever he was doing.
  • Jesse: Mikkel Damsgaard - 8 pts - A Granit Xhaka scoreline for Damsgaard as he assisted… someone for Brentford's only goal, picking up all 3 bonus points in the process.

And just 1 week into the 3 weeks of September, I take the top spot on PF! Kevin is the only manager to join me at 50+ PF!

Manager of the Month

Next week will see some great matchups, headlined by a match between our top 2 scorers of last week: me vs Kevin! Elsewhere, a couple of "invitee vs inviter" matches happened to be scheduled this week as we'll see MatthewR taking on John and Chris facing off against Dylan in their first league matchups against one another! Full matchups are as follows:

  • Alex (12) vs Luke (2)
  • Matthew (1) vs Kevin (4)
  • MatthewR (3) vs John (11)
  • Zach (9) vs Jesse (7)
  • Chris (5) vs Dylan (10)
  • Coop (8) vs Darryan (6)

And finally, some shoutouts! They'll go to Darryan, myself, and MatthewR for winning back to back weeks!

League of Champions - Group Stage Table

League of Champions - Group Stage Matchups

Power Rankings

On the bubble (in no order): Matthew, Kevin, MatthewR, ChrisB Fell off: Chris, Kim

10 - Tori (-) - League C - Last 3: 46 (W), 52 (W), 38 (W) - A less convincing win but a win nonetheless for Tori this week as she keeps the top spot in League C. Highlights came from the Harvey Barnes (12) goal and assist, Rice's (5) assist for the Havertz goal, Rogers' (5) goal, and big Dan Ballard (4) hitting defcon like the beast he is. And that's not to mention the fact that Nicolas Jackson is going to be the golden boot winner. Mark my words once Aston Villa finally score a Premier League goal they won't stop, and he's probably the most clinical finisher in the league. Maybe alongside Calafiori, who Tori also has.

9 - Scott (NEW) - League B - Last 3: 64 (W), 41 (L), 47 (W) - The League B Barnes owner joins the list after 3 very solid weeks, including… 3 0's on his field this week. Yeah so that's 5 total injuries and a bomb squaded Matheus Nunes on his team. Anyway, Gakpo turned into a man possessed as soon as he didn't go to Spurs or Manchester City, now at 1g3a on the season including 2 assists this week, Murillo and Alisson both decided +2 was a nice amount after securing their clean sheets. Plus, apparently if you give Isidor exactly 26 minutes, he'll contribute to a goal. That's now 1g1a in back to back games when subbed on in the 64th minute.

8 - Andrew (-4) - League B - Last 3: 53 (L), 28 (L), 32 (D) - Andrew is hanging onto this list by the names on his team as he yet again has been unable to pick up a win this season. But hey he got a draw which is basically worth as much as a win. (Plus, I think Andrew is the drawingest manager of all time) Anyway, names I've written a thousand times by now: Tavernier, Rogers, Kerkez. I know these names better than I know my own grandmother's. If only he didn't bench the guy with 12 points on his bench. Then I could add another name to the list of names. Anyway, he'll be fine, but the Joao Pedro + Morgan Rogers reliance could be troublesome if they played against Arsenal every week.

7 - Anthony (NEW) - League C - Last 3: 43 (L), 43 (W), 71 (W) - Let's just pretend I didn't drop Anthony off this list (barely!) last week, considering he put up 71 this week and hasn't scored less than 43 this season. And that 71 points came from 4 double digit returns, including 24 total from the Liverpool duo of Isak and Gakpo, 12 from the guy Andrew left on his bench, and 10 from Suzuki. Plus, Van de Ven almost made it to double digits (9) as Spurs managed to escape with a clean sheet intact by the finest of handball margins. And Khusanov got 5 points, which is pretty cool.

6 - Luke (+2) - League A - Last 3: 53 (W), 45 (W), 37 (L) - Did Luke go up 2 spots because everyone just kinda did mediocre this week other than like, 4 people? Maybe. And we may see a power rankings reset in the coming weeks, but for now, enjoy your 6th place spot Luke. It's not every week your only returns will come from Van Hecke, Murillo, and Donnarumma, so breathe it in. Anyway, he's got 3 FWDs who start so he's basically winning the league.

5 - Zach (-2) - League A - Last 3: 47 (W), 45 (L), 35 (L) - The Haaland team is not haaling at the rate he would like, with just the 9 from Haaland, 6 from Ruben Dias, and 5 from Rice, a lot didn't go right this week for Zach, and especially not when going up against Kevin's 54 pointer. And uhh he's gonna need Stach/Schade to lock in because other than Haaland I'm seeing a lot of 2s over here. Even Hill isn't getting close to the defcon threshold wtf.

4 - Katie (+1) - League C - Last 3: 30 (L), 80 (W), 37 (L) - Honestly y'all need to stay buckled because we're still in the stretch of "could score 50 next week or could score 20 and fall off this list" as Katie takes a very narrow loss at 37 points, with her only returns coming from Alex Scott's 10 pointer and Alisson's 8. On the other hand, she does have Bruno Fernandes, MGW, and the best to ever do it Wilson Isidor, so I'm not counting Katie out until we get far enough from her 80 pointer it wouldn't be listed here^

3 - Charlotte (+3) - League C - last 3: 50 (D), 50 (W), 42 (W) - We close out our streak of 30 pointers to showcase Charlotte's solid performance(s) and especially her 42 pointer when barely anyone could actually score that many points. Anyway, same combination of players y'all have heard a thousand times, but add in Bryan Mbeumo (to Tav and Guehi) and that's really the only difference here. Oh and she did bench Mitchell's 15 pointer. Which was tragic because 56 points may have gotten her another spot higher in the power rankings. Oh well, maybe next week!

2 - Aarushi (-) - League C - Last 3: 55 (W), 51 (L), 33 (W) - HAH, you thought I was done with the mid-30s scores, but jokes on you because I've got one more to sneak in here. And yeah, Aarushi didn't have a lot going for her team this week (other than Odegaard's 10 points), but the key difference between her and #4-6 is that she won. And sometimes, it's better to be lucky than good. And also, her team is just good. It isn't every week Brentford will make, what, 3 subs at halftime. Or Raya concede a goal. Or Harry Maguire get 2 points in a convoluted manner. Usually he gets it in a normal manner, by having 4 goals conceded and 10 defensive contributions.

1 - Gavin (-) - League B - Last 3: 63 (W), 52 (W), 59 (W) - I mean, League B's got their work cut out for them: defeat Gavin. The entire league needs to unite to somehow stop this guy, because holy cow his team is just absurd. Isak is scoring things he would never score last season, Odegaard looks to have taken a step back to 2/3 years ago, Cherki is, well, Cherki, Tzolis is a g/a merchant, Tarky is basically the defensive contribution version of Tzolis, and Araujo may have been the Szoboszlai replacement Liverpool fans have been looking for. Plus, if Spurs can keep a clean sheet, anything is possible. Anyway, it's just a matter of time before you get two 74 pointers scored against you in back to back weeks so good luck buddy
