Season 4 Final Weekly Update - League B

Hello everyone and welcome to our final weekly update! I hope you had a blast this season and will return (fill out this form pls) and/or bring along a friend (make them fill out this form pls). This weekly update will be pretty normal, but I'll spend a little more time putting together a proper season recap (for both leagues!) and send that out probably later this week!

Anyway, the final gameweek came with the usual rotation and madness that the final week usually sees, which resulted in actually pretty expected results in League B. Headlined by John's title-securing victory over Cara, 43-31! Congratulations to our (first) League B Champion: John!!! Elsewhere, Chris picked up a high scoring victory over Andrew 47-43, Alex secured his 3rd place finish with a 42-26 win over Mack, and ZachA won 28-2 against Divya. Yeah, that's right. 2. Full results are as follows:

  • Travis 20-31 Matthew
  • Emma 20-32 Morgs
  • ZachA 28-2 Divya
  • Chris 47-43 Andrew
  • John 43-31 Cara
  • Mack 26-42 Alex

League Table

Weekly Matchups

Not a ton of movement this week (unfortunately), but let's recap! John's win means he secures the League B title with just a 1 point lead over me! Alex and Chris end their solid seasons in 3rd and 4th, with a two point gap between them. Morgs and ZachA's run of form to end the season saw them jump over Mack and take home 5th and 6th place, dropping her down to 7th. Emma finishes her campaign with a respectable 8th place finish, with Cara not too terribly far behind. Andrew's up and down (and also rather unlucky) season saw a 10th place finish, 4 points ahead of Travis, who is followed by Divya!

Game Changers! The 10-screen set up proved itself worthy this week so I should have seen some action from every player here.

  • Matthew: Harry Maguire - 6 pts - Slabhead follows up the disappointment from not being called up for the England squad (seriously, wtf?) with a clean sheet performance for United against Brighton. Solid.
  • Morgs: Caoimhin Kelleher - 6 pts - Rare you see 2 bonus points for a keeper in a 1-1 match but the Irishman ended his season on a high with 7 saves as Brentford kept the door shut on Liverpool (mostly) this weekend.
  • ZachA: Bryan Mbeumo - 9 pts - An 11 goal season for the bald ex-Brentford man as he netted one more for the road against Brighton.
  • Chris: Ollie Watkins - 13 pts - What more to say than OLLIE OLLIE OLLIE OI OI OI as he bagged back to back braces to close out the season. When Aston Villa didn't have anything to play for. The best to ever do it.
  • John: Bruno Fernandes - 14 pts - Mr. Manchester United himself sets the new Premier League assist record with a bang as he swung in a corner that landed right on Dorgu's forehead and was suspiciously quickly deemed not a Bart own goal. I'm just joking he totally deserved the record after being forced to play as a DM for Amorim for half the season.
  • Alex: Jarrod Bowen - 12 pts - As West Ham sadly got relegated, Bowen did his part, notching 9 goals and 13 assists this season and cementing his spot as one of the most consistent FPL performers of recent years. But where will he go next?

Congratulations to John for winning May Manager of the Month on PF! He defeated Chris by just 1 point, Alex by 2, and me, ZachA, and Morgs by way more than that many! This is his 3rd Manager of the Month award this season!

Manager of the Month

And to end the season, Chris takes the top spot on the form table on PF over me and Morgs! We all finished with 12/15 points earned in the final 5 weeks!

Form Table

And our final winstreak shoutouts start with the 3 wins in a row by Chris and John! And also shoutout to Alex and Morgs for their back to back wins to finish out the season!

The Run In

For continuity, here are the final run in tables!

League A

As mentioned earlier, Jesse took advantage of Darryan's rough set of matches to end the season and took second! Meanwhile, Luke, Dylan, and I enjoyed MatthewR's loss to Scott as our wins took him from 5th down to 8th in one week!

League A - Top 8

Matt ended the season comfortably in 9th, sending Coop to the relegation playoff (below)!

League A - Relegation Race

League B

And that's all she wrote! John won his match against Cara and secured the League B title by a single point over me!

League B - Title Race

As for the race for the promotion spots, Alex wins his match against Mack and secures his spot in League A next season! That means Chris is confirmed for the Promotion Playoff! Also, Mack's loss opened the door for Morgs to move up to a 5th place finish and ZachA to finish 6th!

League B - Promotion Playoff Race

Promotion Playoff

And the stage has been set with Chris vs Coop to be the matchup to determine our 12th League A manager for Season 5! And, since I don't have a lot else to say here, without much further ado…

Congratulations to Chris for defeating Coop by an aggregate score of 96-51 to secure his spot in League A next season!

Power Rankings

I'm thinking I'll do a full season ranking in my season recap so stay tuned for that! Which means this will just cover these past few weeks / the final gameweek.

On the bubble (in no order): Dylan, Morgs, Andrew, MatthewR, Jesse Fell off: Jesse

10 - Matthew (NEW) - League A - Last 5: 27 (W), 42 (L), 60 (W), 40 (W), 36 (W) - Definitely no bias here (I did compare my scores vs like 4 other managers before deciding tho) but ending the season with 4/5 wins with the only loss coming from a 42 point week is pretty solid. Semenyo ended the season with a goal, as did all-star 12th/13th pick (I can't remember) Mateta, and West Ham 2nd best signing of the season Taty. Plus, Enzo Le Fee picked up 3 bonus points with 0 goals/assists/defcon points in a 2-1 match in which Sunderland defeated Chelsea. So he's probably the best midfielder to play in Europe next season if I had to guess.

9 - Kevin (-2) - League A - Last 5: 34 (W), 60 (W), 54 (W), 27 (L), 22 (L) - A rough end to the season as Kevin limps home to a very respectable 4th place finish. This week's highlight came from his own namesake, Kevin from Fulham, who hit the crossbar on a direct free kick and was awarded an FPL assist when Diop headed home the rebound. He was then subbed off at 59' to deny himself and our Kevin the 2 more points he would have got if he had stayed on the pitch longer. This week's lowlight came from Morgan Gibbs-White, whose 9 points sat despairingly 3rd on Kevin's bench. Banking them for next year I guess.

8 - Luke (+2) - League A - Last 5: 48 (L), 45 (W), 40 (W), 25 (L), 46 (W) - A solid win for Luke this week to bounce back from, well, whatever happened in GW37, as he did what Crystal Palace couldn't and beat the crowned champion of the season. And he did so with a very solid score, off the back of Pedro Porro's 8th defcon of the season (wouldn't have expected him to reach the threshold that many times before this season started) and yet another Spurs clean sheet (thanks Kinsky :(). Palmer also finally proved he can do just as well as Mavropanos, as they both scored 8 this week. Joke's on Cole though, he was still outscored across the entire season by the West Ham centerback, 122-114. Oh and there was also the Lammens clean sheet points since apparently Gross decided he's done enough for the team this season.

7 - Mack (-3) - League B - Last 5: 62 (W), 46 (W), 46 (L), 17 (L), 26 (L) - A similar end of the season for the other Gyokeres owner as yet again, not much going for Mack's team other than the Semenyo goal and Milenkovic+Garner defcon returns. Doesn't help that Andersen decided a red card could be fun last week (Fulham kept a clean sheet) and Carrick decided Mazraoui could be fun instead of Dalot (United kept a clean sheet). But also Woltemade and Strand Larsen both started in a week for maybe the 2nd time this season?

6 - Chris (+3) - League B - Last 5: 32 (W), 37 (L), 62 (W), 49 (W), 47 (W) - A very solid finish to the season as Chris put up the highest League B score off the back of Ollie Watkins' 15th and 16th league goals as Aston Villa defeat Manchester City in Pep's final game. That's 5 goals (and an assist) in 3 games to end the season for the striker who was left out of the England squad in favor of Ivan Toney smh. Anyway, Watkins was joined by Mateus Fernandes's solid 9 point performance, Diouf's clean sheet, and the Wilson of the Callum variety's goal as well. Really just a day for purple kitted players on Chris's team.

5 - Darryan (+1) - League A - Last 5: 24 (L), 36 (W), 47 (W), 50 (L), 31 (L) - Two losses to end the season as Haaland gets benched for the 2nd time in 3 weeks (he's scored in every game in the last 7 he's started) and Darryan is forced to rely on his own purple players for points. 6 points from Summerville's assist and 7 from Hermansen's clean sheet join Shaw's (red is kinda purple) clean sheet as the only returns Darryan's got. And man, he really could've used the (at least) 6 points from a Haaland goal.

4 - Matthew2 (-1) - League B - Last 5: 40 (W), 40 (W), 40 (W), 51 (L), 31 (W) - Some may say my waivers may have been better if I wasn't on vacation, but I did pick up a win to give myself the faintest shot at winning League B. But alas, not enough, as despite Salah getting one final assist before sailing off into the sunset and Harry Maguire keeping one final clean sheet before getting as many minutes in the World Cup as me, John beat Cara which meant it didn't even really matter. Also special thanks to James Hill, who got recalculated to hit the defcon threshold and get me above 30 points this week.

3 - Alex (+2) - League B - Last 5: 31 (L), 58 (W), 51 (L), 43 (W), 42 (W) - A solid finale for Alex as he confirmed his spot in League A next season with the win this week. His also heavily purpled players did the heavy lifting, led by Bowen's 12 pointer. And you may disagree but if Manchester United red is close enough to purple then surely red with black stripes is at least a little bit closer to purple, which is why I think Tavernier's 10 pointer and Truffert's 6 can be considered points for the purple shirts. And there is no comment section so you can't even disagree HAH. Anyway nobody else on his team did anything worth more than a 3 pointer (and that was only Collins).

2 - John (-) - League B - Last 5: 31 (L), 36 (L), 59 (W), 58 (W), 43 (W) - John's League B winning season comes to an end with a 3 winstreak where he averaged just over 50 points each of those weeks. This one came from (purple shirt) Bruno Fernandes's record breaking 21st (official) assist (24th FPL assist) and 9th goal of the season, totalling 14 points this week. He also saw the very purple double West Ham clean sheet and, probably the least purple of them all, Enzo Le Fee's bizarre 5 point performance against Chelsea. We can't even talk about Mateta's goal as he sits 3rd on John's bench. It would've been so good too because red + blue = purple.

1 - Zach (-) - League A - Last 5: 37 (W), 43 (W), 61 (W), 72 (W), 43 (L) - Yeah he lost but that's kinda the nature of the Zach vs Luke matchup: it's either a blowout or 3 point game. Anyway, despite the loss this week the League A winner kept his scores at 43+ in all of the last 4 weeks and that's despite having 2 0s on the field this week. He has purple players who returned who were already mentioned - Tavernier, Mateus Fernandes, Maguire - plus definitely (unfortunately) not purple Danso who picked up 8 points. Maybe Harry Maguire wasn't the key.

Anyway, these have been a blast to write (for the most part (when I win)) and I hope you've enjoyed the season! I'll put together a Season 4 recap over the next ~week or so, so keep an eye out for that! Other things on the horizon include the Season 4 feedback form, World Cup fantasy, etc. so keep an eye out for those! And fill out the returning manager form if you're coming back :)

Thanks for a great season all!
