Season 4 Weekly Update 34 - League B

Hello everyone and welcome to blank gameweek 34! Quick turnaround this week with free agency already open since for whatever reason the Premier League decided to give just a single day gap between matches! Hooray! Anyway, this high scoring gameweek had some very close matchups, led by Cara's narrow 32-33 win over Divya! Elsewhere, Morgs pulled off the upset against Alex 54-51, Chris picked up a huge 3 points with his 63-60 win over ZachA, and I fended off Andrew's high scoring 61 point week with my own 74 pointer. 5 weeks left! And little happening in the title race as the gap stands at 4 points between our challengers! Alex sees himself drop to 6 back though, following his defeat. Chris now sits just 5 back of him, with Mack a single point behind. She moved up a spot this week, now 2 points ahead of ZachA. Morgs sits just one point behind him. The rest of the table looks just about the same heading into these final few weeks.

Game Changers!

  • Matthew: Ethan Ampadu - 12 pts - A huge double gameweek from the defcon beast as he rectified his mistake in not hitting the threshold in the first game by putting up a 9 point performance against Bournemouth, which included an assist, 16 defensive contributions, and 2 bonus points.
  • Cara: Matheus Nunes - 11 pts - A balanced performance across the two games as the first included him honestly doing all the work for Cherki's goal and being awarded the assist, while the second was a clean sheet kept. The power of double gameweeks means that's an 11 pointer.
  • Morgs: Michael Kayode - 8 pts - What a guy Kayode has been this season. Just a beast at right back for Brentford and a solid FPL player as well. A clean sheet and 2 bonus points for a job well done as Brentford and Fulham put viewers to sleep with a 0-0 draw.
  • Mack: Marc Guehi - 8 pts - A very even spread of points for a 50 pointer with Guehi picking up a 1 + 7 split from the two games this week. Still waiting on Burnley to score…
  • John: Pascal Gross - 16 pts - The model of consistency himself Grob picked up 8 points against Spurs and followed it up with another 8 points against Chelsea. Signing of the winter?
  • Chris: Ollie Watkins - 16 pts - Ollie shows why he's the goat as he single handedly carried Aston Villa to a 4-3 win against Sunderland this weekend (I didn't watch the game) with 2 goals and 1 assist. king.

Going into the final week of April, I take the top spot on PF over John, Chris, and Mack!

Welcome to Gameweek 6 of the Champions Cup and to the Round of 16! This week had some crazy matches and high scores, led by Jesse's narrow victory over MatthewR 66-62 in Group B! Over in Group A, Darryan picked up 3 points against Luke in a high scoring 73-63 match as Andrew pulled off the upset against Alex 61-51. Group C saw a high scoring match between Zach and Kevin in which the first won 80-66. The full results are as follows:

Just one difference in this group following this week's matches with Darryan sneaking into 2nd ahead of Luke. Quite the close group, actually, with Alex taking the top spot on PF and just 1 point ahead of the 4th place finisher.

Unlike the first two groups, this one did see some drama as Kevin could not get it done against Zach and with Mack's win has been knocked out of the cup! The 51-all draw between the two was mutually beneficial since Kevin would have had the PF tiebreaker and they both go through!

The Run In

League A

Starting with the top 8! Kevin and Luke move up to 4th and 5th, with Kevin facing the most difficult opposition this week in Darryan! MatthewR vs Dylan is also one to watch on this table! The top 3 sees steady progress in points as Darryan's more difficult opponent certainly is a juxtaposition against his competitors near the top.

The race continues to be tight between Matt and Coop as they both faced tough opposition this week and could not prevail. And the opposition does not appear to get any less tricky in the coming weeks.

The title race in League B also continues to sit in status quo as both John and I win! A tough match for John this week against Chris, though, as I take on Divya!

Mack's win sees her jump above ZachA this week, with the opportunity to put some space between them if she can win this week! Chris also takes on John which could be huge for Mack if she can take home all 3 points!

10 - Alex (-1) - League B - Last 5: 43 (W), 60 (W), 28 (W), 61 (W), 51 (L) - (3 doublers) On the one hand, Alex only had 3 players play twice this week and still scored 51 points, on the other hand, he did lose by 3. Could he have grabbed a couple more doublers to give himself a better chance of taking home three points? Probably, considering the only notable returns were from Truffert/Tavernier/Kroupi, who all had 9+ points this week. Konate and Szoboszlai did solidly for their single games, but Sunderland defense couldn't hold back the goat Ollie and Dango has been absent the past few weeks. He's got a good team (as his position would indicate), but it's going to be an uphill battle if his sights are set on a top 2 finish this season.

9 - Luke (+1) - League A - Last 5: 56 (W), 44 (W), 36 (L), 58 (W), 63 (W) - (5 doublers) A solid double gameweek performance from Luke saw him win a key matchup against Dylan off the back of mostly single gameweek players in Leno and Canvot, who each picked up 10 points. However, Senesi, Boscagli, and Gross carried the weight this week as the Brighton midfielder led the charge with a 16 pointer. And what a signing he has been for Brighton, who steamrolled Chelsea this week. Another point of interest is that Luke's team contained 4 10-pointers this week, with 2 of them coming at the GKP position, and the other non-Canvot one sitting 3rd on his bench. Nice.

8 - Kevin (-) - League A - Last 5: 51 (W), 45 (W), 24 (L), 51 (W), 66 (W) - (4 doublers) A similar performance to Luke (and a lot of League A, honestly) for Kevin, although he was able to consolidate two 10 pointers into a single 20-pointer from Morgan Gibbs-White. Why didn't Luke think of that? Maybe if he did he'd be 8th right now but alas. Anyway, 3 of Kevin's 4 doublers picked up 8 pointers, with the 4th (Caicedo) apparently misunderstanding and scoring only 4. Apparently LinkedIn Liam didn't bring enough B2B to the team :shrug: Anyway, Mitchell and KDH also contributed with a clean sheet and an assist, respectively. The others not mentioned are insignificant 1 and 2 pointers.

7 - Dylan (-3) - League A - Last 5: 40 (L), 62 (W), 38 (W), 47 (W), 51 (L) - (3 doublers) Dylan's in a similar situation to Alex this week, where he did pretty well with 3 doublers, but could a few more have moved the needle? Maybe less directly considering he lost by 12 instead of 3, but still. His doublers did perform well, with Van Hecke picking up 12, Welbeck 8, and Minteh's participation trophy 4 pointer still outscored 5 of his players. Hell, even single gameweeker Salah contributed 10 to the cause alongside Richards' 6 and Szo's 5. Solid week normally, but when the average is 57 there's a bit of a hill to climb.

6 - Jesse (-) - League A - Last 5: 55 (W), 39 (W), 49 (W), 43 (L), 66 (W) - (3 doublers) Although Jesse was also in the triple double club, he chose correctly as his were Cherki (13 pts), Truffert (13 pts), and Ampadu (12 pts). And of course they were bolstered by two of the most prolific goalscorers in the league in VVD and Beto picking up 8 and 9 points, respectively, and Casemiro doing Casemiro things and somehow getting 23 defensive contributions on his old man legs. I am worried about Jesse's goalkeeper situation though. Is he putting curses on them? How do they keep getting injured? Can we get an investigation into this matter, please.

5 - Zach (+2) - League A - Last 5: 31 (L), 33 (L), 33 (W), 51 (W), 80 (W) - (7 doublers) And this is the other side of the coin, (probably) the second most doublers this week (behind me? I think), and an 80 pointer to show for it. Solid performances came from Kadioglu (16), Matheus Nunes (11), Tavernier (9), Darlow and Guehi (8), and Bogle (7). Plus, he got 9 points from Rogers, 5 from Milenkovic, and 4 from Sangare. Because why not. The only disappointments who didn't do anything on his team were Gomez (who got injured) and Sesko (who started). Oh and he benched Osula, who is apparently the #1 striker on a team with Woltemade and Wissa on it (somehow).

4 - Darryan (+1) - League A - Last 5: 65 (W), 34 (L), 28 (L), 32 (L), 73 (W) - (7 doublers) Darryan followed suit and made some huge double gameweek transfers, including Justin (19) and Khusanov (15)… and the rest of his team didn't need to do too much. His Bournemouth doublers (Scott and Evanilson) had 5 and 6, Hermansen had his clean sheet, and Haaland of course had 13 between the two games. And maybe most importantly, he didn't make any glaring mistakes in benching players who shouldn't have been benched. A huge improvement!

3 - Mack (-1) - League B - Last 5: 49 (W), 42 (W), 39 (L), 51 (W), 50 (W) - (3 doublers) On the one hand, Mack only had 3 players play twice this week and still scored 50 points, on the other hand, she did win by 20. At the end of the day, it is a game of luck and sometimes you don't need to put your finger on the scale to give yourself a better chance at winning. And you know what, now Mack doesn't have to make 400 waivers to field a full team this week. Anyway, other than the Strand Larsen and Gyokeres 1 pointers, this 50 pointer was built by 3-8 pointers. Garner got his yellow and defcon (3), Dubravka doubled and got 0 points in the first game and 4 in the second, Casemiro, Semenyo, and Milenkovic found their own ways to 5 points, Dalot and Andersen enjoyed clean sheet 6 pointers while KDH had to get an assist and bonus to equal them, and Guehi joined Dalot/Andersen for a clean sheet, but he also played an extra game (and got a bonus point to cancel out a yellow) to end up at 8 points.

2 - John (+1) - League B - Last 5: 59 (W), 36 (W), 32 (L), 51 (W), 73 (W) - (3 doublers) John followed the Jesse strat of just picking the right guys as his 3 doublers combined for 37 points (Gross 16, O'Reilly 13, DCL 8). Unlike Jesse though, he went all in on a West Ham clean sheet which paid off and earned him 17 points from Hermansen/Diouf/Mavropanos. Add in the best MID in the game earning yet another assist and Bruno Fernandes getting on the board and that's a solid 73 pointer from the League B leader.

1 - Matthew2 (-) - League B - Last 5: 67 (W), 51 (L), 37 (W), 55 (W), 74 (W) - (7 doublers) Yeah, those 4 extra matches played by my players were worth the +1 on John. And I didn't even have to look at a 0 or 1 on my team, since my low scorers (Thiago and Wieffer smh), each had 2s. Otherwise my standouts were Ampadu, wishes he was Ampadu (Salah), yearns to one day be Ampadu (Rogers), training under Ampadu's guidance (Bogle), scared of Ampadu after this week (Senesi, Hill, Evanilson), begging to learn his long throw abilities (Munoz), and Bart (bart).
