Season 4 Weekly Update 32 - League B

Hello everyone and (finally) welcome to gameweek 32! After what was possibly the longest international / cup break of all time, waivers this week are due Thursday at 10:30am PDT / 1:30pm EDT! Some great matches this week, led by Travis's huge upset over John 33-32! Elsewhere, Morgs picked up a big 3 points over Mack as she won 56-39 and I closed the gap slightly to John with a 37-22 win over ZachA. Full results are as follows:

  • ZachA 22-37 Matthew2
  • Chris 44-13 Emma
  • John 32-33 Travis
  • Mack 39-56 Morgs
  • Alex 28-9 Divya
  • Cara 31-17 Andrew

Weekly Matchups

With just 7 matches to go, the slightly larger gap in League B than League A has been cut to just 4 points between John and myself. In third, Alex finds himself just 3 points back still, with an 8 point gap over 4th. Which leads us to the race for 4th, which is currently led by Chris on PF over ZachA. And that duo is only 1 point ahead of Mack and Morgs. They have an 8 point gap over Emma, who is 8 ahead of Cara, who is 4 ahead of Andrew, who is 4 ahead of Travis, who is (unfortunately, as this breaks the chain) 5 ahead of Divya.

Game Changers! It's been an eon so I'll surely remember a lot of details from these games.

  • Matthew: Murillo - 8 pts - The clean sheet was never in doubt against this Spurs side as Nottingham Forest won by the biggest margin since… their first game against Spurs, which also ended 3-0.
  • Chris: Ollie Watkins - 9 pts - Ollie is BACK with his first goal since gameweek 23 in Villa's 2-0 win against West Ham.
  • Travis: Beto - 16 pts - An enormous week for the Evertonian as he scored 2 and assisted 1 in the 3-0 win against Chelsea. Chelsea and Spurs both to be relegated?
  • Morgs: Iliman Ndiaye - 10 pts - The other goalscorer in that game was the afcon winner and talisman of Everton - wait, my producer is telling me Senegal did not win afcon and FIFA is going to have to pry the trophy from their well protected coffers.
  • Alex: Jordan Pickford - 7 pts - Really nothing more to say about Everton 3-0 Chelsea. Obviously Everton kept a clean sheet that game.
  • Cara: Danny Welbeck - 12 pts - The English legend Danny Welbeck continues his great form this season, scoring both goals in Brighton's 2-1 win against Liverpool. Everton fans winning twice this week.

I totally miscounted in past weeks, there were actually just 3 weeks in March, so congratulations to Morgs for winning his first Manager of the Month of the season! She defeated Alex by 4 PF!

Manager of the Month

And unsurprisingly, Morgs takes the top spot on the form table with a perfect 15/15 points earned! John and Mack are the only two managers on 12/15 points in the last 5!

Form Table

This week will see some great matchups, headlined by a matchup between two in-form teams in Morgs vs John! Elsewhere, Travis looks to continue his upset streak with a match against Chris, and Emma takes on ZachA! Full matchups are as follows:

  • Matthew (2) vs Cara (9) (all-time: 2-0-0, 103-35)
  • Andrew (10) vs Alex (3) (all-time: 1-0-1, 78-74)
  • Divya (12) vs Mack (6) (all-time: 1-0-1, 47-85)
  • Morgs (7) vs John (1) (all-time: 0-0-2, 65-86)
  • Travis (11) vs Chris (4) (all-time: 0-0-2, 56-85)
  • Emma (8) vs ZachA (5) (all-time: 0-0-2, 58-77)

Shoutout this week to Morgs for her 5 winstreak! And to Alex for his 3 winstreak and Chris for picking up back to back wins!

Champions Cup

Welcome to Gameweek 4 of the Champions Cup! Some great matchups this week, led by our first draw, a 28-all match in Group A between Darryan and Alex! Other notable results include Luke's 1 point win over Matt 36-35, also in Group A, Matthew2's 37-33 win over Zach in Group C, and Coop's big 55-38 upset over Dylan in Group D. The full results are as follows:

Group A:

  • Darryan 28-28 Alex
  • Luke 36-35 Matt
  • Emma 13-17 Andrew

This week's results see Alex and Darryan (of course) keep their top spot at 7 points. Meanwhile, Luke's win was big for his qualification chances as it takes him up to sole 3rd place and 6 points, with Matt and Andrew straddling the line on 3. Emma remains the only manager still winless.

Group B:

  • MatthewR 44-22 ZachA
  • Jesse 49-24 Gavin
  • Chris 44-33 Travis

Group B takes on a vastly different story, with Jesse and MatthewR making up 2 of the 3 9 point teams in the group stage going into week 4. I'm not doing the math, but I think that effectively means they both will make it to the knockout rounds. On the other hand, it is leading toward an interesting battle around the elimination line, with ZachA, Gavin, and Chris all on 3 points. And because of this, Gavin still has a good shot, despite deputizing the 0 point spot for Group B.

Group C:

  • Zach 33-37 Matthew2
  • Kevin 24-42 Scott
  • Mack 39-9 Divya

This group takes on a more typical structure, with Matthew2 being the only (other) 9 point team. Scott's victory this week over Kevin sees him go level with his opponent on 6 points (yet behind on PF), and Mack and Zach split the elimination line while sitting on 3 points a piece. Divya takes that unfortunate 0 point spot in this group,

Group D:

  • Matthew 25-32 John
  • Dylan 38-55 Coop
  • Morgs 56-31 Cara

The final group sees what may be the most interesting point spread, as it truly is anyone's group with 4 managers on 6 points: Dylan, John, Morgs, and myself. Coop sits just 3 points back, with Cara down but not out on 0 points.

Next week we will see some great matchups, headlined by what should be a great matchup between Zach and Mack in Group C! Elsewhere, (in the same group) Kevin takes on Matthew2 in a fun inter-league match, I go up against Morgs in Group D while Dylan faces off against John. Full matchups are as follows:

Group A:

  • Darryan vs Matt
  • Luke vs Andrew
  • Alex vs Emma

Group B:

  • MatthewR vs Gavin
  • Jesse vs Travis
  • ZachA vs Chris

Group C:

  • Zach vs Mack
  • Kevin vs Matthew2
  • Scott vs Divya

Group D:

  • Matthew vs Morgs
  • Dylan vs John
  • Coop vs Cara

And here is a view of the entire group stage as it stands!

Power Rankings

On the bubble (in no order): Luke, Chris, MatthewR, Matthew Fell off: Matthew

10 - Alex (-) - League B - Last 5: 36 (L), 39 (L), 43 (W), 60 (W), 28 (W) - A rough one for Alex but a win is a win as he really had nothing going this week points-wise. The only return came from ol' reliable England #1 Jordan Pickford who kept a clean sheet against a historically bad at scoring team: Chelsea. Either way, he does seem primed for the upcoming double gameweek considering his triple Bournemouth, which makes the quadruple Liverpool lineup a bit confusing. Maybe ask @zach about the perils of homerism in FPL o7

9 - Morgs (NEW) - League B - Last 5: 59 (W), 25 (W), 38 (W), 41 (W), 56 (W) - A 5 winstreak and 50+ point week this week sees Morgs make her way onto the list, and that's including the blank from Richards on the field. Returns from probably the 2nd best goalkeeper in the league (Kelleher), the best center back in the league (Keane), and the best striker in the league (Brobbey) propelled her to a very solid week. We'll see how the following weeks go for her though as Chelsea's only goalscorer Enzo is out.

8 - Kevin (-3) - League A - Last 5: 63 (W), 37 (D), 51 (W), 45 (W), 24 (L) - The other Keane owner left him last on his bench in favor of Thiaw, Konate, and Frimpong, who both averaged and scored altogether 0 points. A solid showing from the Liverpool boys. The only beacon of hope from this week's display was from MGW, who did pick up 8 points. Not every week you get to play against Spurs though.

7 - Zach (-1) - League A - Last 5: 52 (W), 54 (W), 31 (L), 33 (L), 33 (W) - A bit of a rough stretch for Zach as he somehow escaped this week with a win despite scoring 33 or less for the 3rd week in a row. That said, he did see his double Manchester City defense + Saka blank and got 6 points from 4 of his players. If only Maguire hadn't gotten that red card and he could have been at a more respectable 37 points.

6 - Jesse (+3) - League A - Last 5: 36 (W), 39 (W), 55 (W), 39 (W), 49 (W) - On the other hand, Jesse keeps up his hot streak off the back of an insane 16 point performance from Beto, alongside solid returns from Milenkovic, Garner, and Ampadu to make up for Sarr and Cherki blanking out there. The only rough spot for Jesse is that he might be regretting that Vicario trade, considering he'll be out for weeks with a hernia… BUT he's got the goat Strand Larsen back and in action (with a bit of competition from Mateta) so he'll be fine.

5 - Dylan (+2) - League A - Last 5: 32 (W), 48 (L), 40 (L), 62 (W), 38 (W) - Basically a freebie for Dylan as he was vs me this week but the Welbeck 12 pointer, Brobbey 8 pointer, and Sels 7 were definitely a help. And in the coming weeks he has Salah back for his farewell tour, Gabriel no longer blanking, and the 2nd best defender in the league Mukiele back in action. Unfortunately for him though he has a myriad of players who have been on and off the bench recently in Dango, Minteh, Livramento, and Barry. Maybe some day Barry's time will come. Not today though.

4 - John (-1) - League B - Last 5: 64 (W), 41 (W), 59 (W), 36 (W), 32 (L) - Just a little slip by John this week as he lost by 1 to Travis with two 0s on the field and Emi Martinez's 6 pointer on the bench. That said, he does have Bruno Fernandes and his 11th double digit score of the season, so who else could he even really need? Actually though the Gabriel + Bruno combo appears to be league-winning this season.

3 - Mack (+1) - League B - Last 5: 46 (W), 35 (W), 49 (W), 42 (W), 39 (L) - Yet another week against the highest score in League B despite putting up a pretty solid score sees Mack's winstreak come to an end. Still, one off week isn't bad and she's definitely in the race for promotion in the run-in. This week though, the double Nottingham Forest clean sheet and solid Garner/Andersen/Woltemade performances did the heavy lifting to make up for her 5 blanks.

2 - Darryan (-) - League A - Last 5: 46 (W), 43 (W), 65 (W), 34 (L), 28 (L) - Technically an improvement on his last 5 considering I removed a 24 (L) but a really tough draw for Darryan as he replaced his blanking players with guys who still got 0 points. Leading to 4 0s on the field and honestly decent performances from the players who did manage to play, including Kelleher, Xhaka, Evanilson, and Raul all doing something non-2 or 1 point. At least next week he won't have Haaland the cheerleader and will have Haaland the player.

1 - Matthew2 (-) - League B - Last 5: 43 (W), 31 (L), 67 (W), 51 (L), 37 (W) - A decent week despite the James Hill own goal and Ballard injury. Murillo showed his worth and Ampadu/Anderson/Rogers(finally)/Evanilson joined Thiago's defensive contributions to get me anywhere from 4 to 6 points each. Which is pretty good in a week where the average is 30 (in League B). Looking forward to the 3rd best defender in the game Munoz to be back though.

Good luck all!
